"RUMORS OF MY DEATH ARE GREATLY EXAGGERATED " I DID HAVE A SERIOUS SCARE A LITTLE WHILE AGO BUT A PATCH OF COW PERICARDIUM OVER A TEAR INSIDE MY HEART SEEMS TO HAVE DONE THE JOB. I AM NOT NOW GIFTED WITH SUPER HUMAN COW POWERS (MOO!) BUT I AM NOT IN THAT COLD DARK HOLE IN THE GROUND EITHER. CONTRARY TO WHAT YOU MIGHT READ ON SOME OF THE REENACTOR BOARDS I CONTINUE TO MAKE TINWARE AND I HAVE A GOOD SUPPLY OF GENUINE COMMERCIALLY PRODUCED DIPPED TIN INCLUDING SOME OF THE LAST "COKED" TIN TO LEAVE ENGLAND IN THE 1960s. I AM IN MY SHOP AS I AM ABLE TO FIND TIME. MY WIFE KEEPS ME BUSY WITH AN EVER GROWING LIST OF "HONEY-DO'S." I HAVE MY OWN LIST OF NEAT TIN ITEMS I WANT TO MAKE AS WELL AS READING AND RESEARCH, SEWING PROJECTS, AND REPRODUCING MORE 19TH CENTURY LUGGAGE. I DO NOT KEEP AN EXTENSIVE STOCK OF WARES ON HAND. ALTHOUGH I MIGHT HAVE A FEW OF THE MORE COMMONLY REQUESTED ITEMS SET ASIDE CHANCES ARE THAT YOUR PIECE WILL BE "BESPOKE" (CUSTOM MADE) AND YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT. I VERY MUCH ENJOY DOING CUSTOM WORK. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING MADE THAT YOU DON'T SEE, JUST ASK. THANK YOU TO OUR MANY LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR WEBSITE. - JP |

John Peterson has been making reproductions of tin and other period metal wares for over forty years after getting his start at Old Sturbridge Village in 1980. He employs techniques, tools and machines that were in use during the nineteenth century. He works in high quality hot-dipped tinplate as well as brass, copper and sheet steel. Although it is not a full-time business, he has reproduced wares for museums, film projects (the fateful cups in The Hateful Eight came from Otter Creek Tinware), collectors and living historians. He is willing to take on custom work but because he is so busy and there is such a high demand for his work he warns that there is a waiting list. John has cut back his event schedule and much enjoys life on the civilian side of living history as a Green Mountain Citizen and a Steady Habits Traveller. He has taken to portraying the peddler Sam Slick whenever he can. |

MR. SATURDAY NIGHT! Incontrovertible photographic and documentary evidence that the 19th century tinman was the original "life of the party": Oooooh look!!! He's soldering!!!!!
... it was many a 'prentice to the tinman's trade who looked forward longingly to the day when he, with sharpened snips and heated iron in hand, would be the center of attention from many of the village's prettiest girls ...
Tinman also available for birthdays, weddings and bar mitzvahs ... |
